I use Crosswords from Stand Alone. You can select puzzles from a lot of sources - it will also download paid puzzles like NYT if you pay/subscribe to those.

I have a lot of games. A LOT. I spend more time downloading, moving them around with LINK2SD and synching up save data than I do playing them all.
Every time I get a new device I install this. It's not flashy or edgy. It's crosswords. But you can choose from a list of free sources and download new puzzles each day. I have a backlog of over 400 and that's 'cause I went to a new phone and hadn't backed them up. This app is great and has had many updates over the years that have made it better. Devs were responsive when I asked about a bug. It's pretty much an unlimited brain exerciser, time killer and even a social game to play at breakfast with your SO.
I always install my Crossword game and my nonograms, CrossMe and CrossMe Color.
