Out of curiosity, what features are you planning on adding to the game later on? I ask because I'm one of the developers of 1010!, and, I have to say, it looks eerily similar to ours. :) Well, other than placed pieces spawning instantly and the grid being 7x7. Maybe you should call the game "77!" ?
Also, for your questions:
> How's the art style? It's meant to be minimalistic (because I can't draw!)
It is pretty minimalistic, and, having published a relatively similar title, I can assure you that it can be successful. I noticed your colours are pretty similar to our "Night" theme, so perhaps consider adding a lighter colour scheme and allowing users to alternate between the two? I mean, that's what we do, and it's worked so far.
> How does it play? Is it fun?
Yes. Source: 50 million+ downloads for 1010!
> What could be added to improve the gameplay, look/feel etc
Visually: see above. The gameplay could be changed in various methods, akin to the way games like Hex FRVR switch it up by using hexagons instead of squares. I recommend experimenting with different win-conditions, modes (challenges, timers, etc.), spawn rates, and even shapes! Whatever floats your boat, really. We actually came up with Merged! while playing around with 1010! feature ideas.
All comments aside, it's totally cool to clone pre-existing games as a method for learning/practicing game development, but building your own title in a fashion so inherently similar to a pre-existing title isn't very cool. :(
I'm curious to see where you'll take the title, however, and wish you luck with the process!
Also, just for further reference, we actually posted 1010! in r/gamedev's Feedback Friday a year ago. You can see the original thread here. Maybe that can give you some ideas? ;)
