I too have been having this issue. I manually add the album art I want with this app yet the art still doesn't show up under Google music but it does within other music players and the app I just linked.
It could be an ID2/ID3 tag issue or just a failure to cashe the album art properly, either way I emailed Google music about this so I expect this issue to be completely ignored and forgotten about.
