Earlier this year Pegasus Mission launched a balloon that streamed telemetry from over 110,000 feet using an onboard IoT device. A video of it's descent https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDxzKJ7QCtw

This time the Pegasus Missions team of about 20 Microsoft employees has partnered with North American Eagle (http://www.landspeed.com) . The NAE team is trying to break the men's (~> 630 mph) and women's (~ >515 mph) single engine land speed records next week, starting September 26th 2016, in the remote Alvord desert in Southeastern Oregon.
We have placed an IoT device that is capable of real-time bidirectional communication within the NAE vehicle. We are publishing a website and apps on the iOS, Android and Windows store that you can use to view the telemetry when the runs are going on and also send messages that will show up in the vehicle's cockpit.
After the runs are over our field crew will download detailed telemetry collected onboard the vehicle during the runs and videos taken from the camera on the vehicle. They'll upload them to Azure which you can then stream on the website or in your apps.
Matt Long's blog at https://pegasusmission.com/ goes into more detail about the project.
The apps and website don't have much right now, but will start showing data once the runs start.
There are 7 scheduled runs, since the exact timing of the run is not deterministic and can vary based on several factors, you can sign up for notification about the runs here https://www.pegasusmission.io/Home/Notifications
