Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
How does the inside look like? These usually have a small board holding the few electronics. Maybe 1cm x 0.5cm or so. You could pull that easily and the diode will come with it, but unfortunately the collimator is really tough to get out of there as it's usually made with the tube, or at least that's what 4 of mine are like. I've been lucky with a few in the past where simply pulling the electronics brought the collimator, but those are the kind you can't focus, and it seems like yours is not fixed.
Lasers are very cheap nowadays, wouldn't it be easier finding a diy one on Amazon?
Here you have 10 lasers for $5.49 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071FT9HSV/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_i_Bm3QEbKRVVG9A
one of these cute lil guys
The first board was given to us by a psychologist and the second one is homemade by my sister. Let me know if you need them, I can send you a pdf so you can print it out.
I made the laser myself. We bought some lasers like these and I welded it to a usb cable for phone. I plug the laser either to a power bank or to a charger like this.
We used to use laser toys before, but we often had to change the batteries. You can use this kind of laser if you can't build one.
Let me know if you have a question
