this ice pack is really for ice and heat for tmj/facial muscles!
I use one similar (down below) to this and like it.. just be sure to watch the packs closer in the microwave so they don’t burst. I like them super hot so I put them in for 30 seconds or so each but mainly until they START to inflate, then I take them out and sleep with it on

Really depends on the surgeon, but they'll typically just follow your lead and what you want. I had to get all 4 out, with 2 partially impacted on the bottom, and was originally petrified of being put under (anxiety), and the surgeon told me I could just do local anesthetic and be awake for the whole thing, but he said it would be very uncomfortable and would require ~30 shots of Novocaine. I ended up opting to be put under (IV sedation), and it was the best decision ever. Don't remember falling asleep, and next thing I knew I was waking up and heading home.
As for food, I'd recommend: ice cream (regular vanilla or something without pieces in it), mashed potatoes, jello, yogurt (no fruit pieces), pudding, etc. Typically by Day 5-6 you'll be able to have more solid foods. I was eating a Chipotle burrito bowl by Day 6 lol.
Also, highly recommend getting an ice/heat pack wrap for your head. It makes all the difference. I got THIS one from Amazon and it was awesome. Make sure you're doing ice for the first 2 days, 30 minutes on, 30 minutes off. Then on Day 3 onward, switch to heat. Also, you don't really need the painkillers after Day 1 (they make you constipated AF). Just stick to an Advil/Tylenol rotation every 4-6 hours and you'll be fine.
In terms of timing, to give you an idea, all 4 of my wisdom teeth (remember, I had 2 partially impacted ones that made it take longer) were removed within 40 minutes. But again, you don't realize the time passing when you're asleep, so to me it was like 5 minutes.

Very normal. I bought 3 of these facial ice packs and they were essential: https://www.amazon.com/LotFancy-Reusable-Gel-Pack-Stretch-Implants/dp/B01FSCLPPI/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=22YARR24JKV8W&keywords=facial+ice+pack&qid=1666233026&qu=eyJxc2MiOiI0Ljk5IiwicXNhIjoiNC41MiIsInFzcCI6IjQuMjQifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=fac...
Tylenol and Advil together work better than narcotics for dental pain according to research. I took 400 mg of Advil with 325 mg of Tylenol every 4 hours (on a timer).
Get a pad that you can freeze and heat up. The cold was nice on my throat for the first few days and the heat felt amazing when the ear pain set in. This is the one I got and it worked well.

For ear pain, I highly recommend this or one similar. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FSCLPPI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_HT044PRVA6BR8BC3FX2A?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 For pain when coming off of pain killers - slowly reduce your dose by half tab (splitting it) but continue to take overnight and early morning because this is when your mouth dries out and pain is the worst in the morning due to this. Pain in your ears when swallowing liquids and food is normal. I’m still experiencing that was well (day 8) but the ear pain is slowly getting better. This is because both your adenoid area and throat are healing. Not just your throat. So both take some time. I hope you have a good recovery. 😌
This was my life saver: LotFancy Gel Ice Pack with Wrap, Pain Relief for TMJ, Wisdom Teeth, Face, Head, Chin Jaw Oral and Facial Surgery, Dental Implants, Reusable Hot Cold Pack for Therapy https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FSCLPPI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_E884N6DGKAFHFVVXSSWK?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1, taking antibiotics and pain pills exactly as prescribed and on time and sleeping upward for the first few days to minimize swelling!
Use ice, I bought this from Amazon and it was a lifesaver - LotFancy Gel Ice Pack with Wrap, Pain Relief for TMJ, Wisdom Teeth, Face, Head, Chin Jaw Oral and Facial Surgery, Dental Implants, Reusable Hot Cold Pack for Therapy https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FSCLPPI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_23AV8DWF80WB6KAQ2CE1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 .
They should have given you pain pills and antibiotics, make sure you’re taking them as you’re supposed to and be very careful with what you eat. Also, do not sleep on your side! Try and sleep as upright as possible to help with the clotting!
Lots of really great information already posted here, so I’ll just add one bit:
Buy this ice pack. I am not exaggerating when I tell you that I wouldn’t have survived recovery without it. Offered so much relief and worth every penny.

I had 6 teeth extracted at once (3 were wisdoms - oddly enough only 3 ever grew, lol), including one impacted in my palate. Extractions are done for many different reasons, from crowding, impaction, bite, etc.
Never hesitate to ask your orthodontist for what they hope to accomplish any part of your treatment. But I wouldn't be nervous if your doc is recommending extractions. Trust the process, even if things sometimes look worse before they get better.
PS: Passing along a recommendation for this ice pack when you have your surgery. Total lifesaver. ;)
Tylenol and ice packs!
This helps a lot!

I got on of these this summer. I keep two packs in the freezer and two out for warming in the microwave. Love it so far. I ice for inflammation and then heat to relax. This is the is the one I ordered.
I'm no expert, but based on my experience (on Day 7 right now), what you're experiencing is completely normal. I'd say the worst pain/swelling/discomfort for me were Days 2-4. My face was so swollen up until Day 4.
The worst thing for your recovery is for you to be anxious about it. Trust me, I get it (generalized anxiety disorder), but it's best to reassure yourself constantly that you'd really know if something was wrong. Moderate pain/dull aching is completely normal. So is the sore jaw. I'm even experiencing a sore throat and swollen lymph nodes - it's all part of the healing process, so don't freak out.
A few tips from my experience thus far:
Hope this helps!
I bought a lot of stuff only for it not to be that useful. Here's what I really used & found useful: - Baby toothbrush - Aquaphor (chapped lips and dry skin!) - Ocean nasal spray - Jaw bra ice pack (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FSCLPPI) - 3 bottles of Soylent - Squeeze bottles (I bought a 6 pack on Amazon but only needed 2, so would recommend you look for one) - Blender
What I bought but didn't find that useful: - Ice face mask - Gatorade - Jade roller - Arnica gel - Arnica tablets - Humidifier
I just had mine done a couple months ago with nitrous oxide and an IV for conscious sedation and I barely remember any of it and they put a towel over my eyes to I mostly just chilled. I was so worried about whether or not to get put completely under, but they made the decision and I'm glad they chose conscious sedation. All of my wisdom teeth were completely impacted, but the whole thing was way more chill than I thought. Definitely get the syringes to clean out the teeth pockets after!!! They were amazing and helped so much! I also got Hot/Cold Gel Pack Head Wrap Thing that helped a lot! If you have any other questions just let me know!
This was super helpful for me. I basically lived in this thing for the first 7 days. You can freeze or heat up the packs depending on what you need.
Sorry to hear this. I’m on day 9 post op. Try ice packs around the neck/jaw. This wrap was super helpful vv
Yeah, I got a wrap that has hot/ cold packs so it goes around the joints and muscles that are usually that cause irritation.
I use this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FSCLPPI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_t1_m7t9FbM12XBRV
