that sounds rough. eczema is a lifetime struggle for me but I've recently made some huge breakthroughs in managing it. is yours on your face? one thing that was helpful for me was this zinc soap. another was realizing that my place was extremely dusty and taking steps to ameliorate that.
For my face I use curology.com. It has worked really great for me. I'd give a before and after, but I don't want too much revealing info on this account, the name is a bit inappropriate.
For my back and a cleanser for my face I use this zinc soap. I had issues with bacteria and maybe fungus irritating my skin. Zinc stops bacteria and fungus. Here is the amazon link to the soap https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00G7TUDA0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's a bit pricey for one block, but it lasts me about 6 months
Thank you! I bought the Noble Formula 2% Pyrithione Zinc Original Bar Soap on Amazon. I don't use it with much frequency so I don't know how much of a part it played in my recovery, but it certainly didn't hurt anything!
Posting again bc automod deleted:
He can try, he’d have to clean up the sides and his hairline and use a sponge with moisturizer of some kind.
On a side note, it looks like he’s dealing with something like tinea versicolor or dermatitis on his face. This soap was recommended to me by a dermatologist to treat facial skin irritation, maybe you’d be interested in looking into it: Noble Formula 2% Pyrithione Zinc (ZnP) Original Emu Bar Soap, 3.25 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G7TUDA0/ref=cm_sw_r_api_i_3Q7PW1NYKQE4F5ZG14RC_1
Noble Formula 2% Pyrithione Zinc (ZnP) Original Emu Bar Soap, 3.25 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G7TUDA0/
I hope links are allowed here, but this item might help, I had pretty bad dandruff and some other issues when I shaved my head and this stuff helped clear it up. Not saying this is a cure all by any means but between this and just time allowing your scalp to breath and heal you might have some luck.
I get really bad acne on my back especially from my sports bra (you can sometimes see the outline lol). I had a dermatologist tell me to use this and I swear by it! I know it’s a little weird that it’s emu oil but it works so well. I also get this like rash where my sport bra band sits under my chest and this is the only thing that’s ever cleared it up (almost over night)
Not worth asking me because I’m now (years later) dealing with an autoimmune disease that completely dries me out. I basically never wash my face and just pile on lotion all day. It’s horrible. Until age 35 I had oily, well hydrated skin prone to cysts around my jaw, and PO. Otherwise I had “great” skin but PO was always looming. My dermatologist says you can trigger PO by disturbing your moisture barrier - too many topicals, actives, etc. If you use any actives I’d cut them out for now and focus on healing that area (maybe a gentle moisturizer like Vanicream) and the sulphur soap 2x a day. I used it 2x a day for about 2 years. Had the best skin of my life. Now I keep it in my shower and use it 1-2 times a week but with my autoimmune condition making me drier but the month I have basically stopped using all soaps period. There is also a great zinc soap I love that I still do use. It helps me with eczema on my legs. Noble Formula 2% Pyrithione Zinc (ZnP) Original Emu Bar Soap, 3.25 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G7TUDA0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_6KZH7P50V5AQRM5742NM?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 This is very hydrating and I’ve read it too can help with PO. These are affordable and don’t involve going to the doctor. I think they’re worth a shot. You’ll know if they’re working within a week.
There’s also a zinc bar soap he can use to wash with you can get it off Amazon for like $10. This helped me as well when I had horrible breakouts from flare ups
Noble Formula 2% Pyrithione Zinc (ZnP) Original Emu Bar Soap, 3.25 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G7TUDA0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_6GBSQFSZ9RNZ0119STYW?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
You can order some off of Amazon! Noble Formula Soap
Let it sit on your skin for a minute before rinsing. I’m using once a day and have seen a huuuge improvement in my skin. Good luck!
I get it off amazon, here’s the link: Noble Formula 2% Pyrithione Zinc (ZnP) Original Emu Bar Soap, 3.25 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G7TUDA0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_ZWFNWDRGAQDJ9FZ0GQ09?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I use it once every night in the shower and let it sit for two minutes before washing it off.
I mean, the photos you posted look really mild compared to my own experience so I'd hope you'd see more success than I did. Like, my entire stomach and lower back looked like they had a crazy infected rash going on.
I actually found the ketoconazole cream was more helpful for me than the wash for some reason? and for the wash, they directed me to put it on for 10 minutes BEFORE getting in the shower...which is what I've been doing with the panoxyl now as well.
I'm actually not familiar with hada labo skin plumping gel cream, so I unfortunately can't share any insights on that...but if you are looking for body washes that might help, personally I look for ones with tea tree oil, as they helped the bacterial component.
If you're looking for something more mild and less anti-bacterial, I've tried a zinc soap bar that chilled out the fungal-rash stuff on my stomach. But if you really want to play it safe, just get some baby safe soap...I personally use the orange vanilla shampoo + body wash by the honest company. It smells SO good.
You have nice muscle tone and your breasts are beautiful!!!!
I wanted to suggest this soap for body acne:
It really works!!!! Check all the positive reviews. Use it and leave on for 10 mins and it will start to clear immediately. And if it doesn’t work amazon will let you return it.
Noble formula makes a bar soap on Amazon that I mainly use for body acne, but can be used on the face as well! Noble Formula 2% Pyrithione Zinc (ZnP) Original Emu Bar Soap, 3.25 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G7TUDA0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_Hcn5Fb9Z6FPBR?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Noble has a Z-bar too here hopefully this one will be available to you! If not, try searching on Amazon for a ZnP soap and see if you find one.
Unfortunately any ZnP product will be drying, its just the nature of the ingredient. Just be sure to follow up with a really good, fungal friendly moisturizer.
there are a lot of things body acne could be. As always, the best option is a derm but...
Things you can try for yourself:
Habits

Products
It takes a while to truly see what works and what doesn't. This helps with the acne not so much the scaring.
I’ve tried salicylic acid cleanser, stridex pads, TO glycolic toner, azelaic acid and various exfoliating clothes/brushes and they all helped but it kept coming back until I used this soap bar. It cleared my chest and back breakout in about a week and stayed clear since. I use it after rinsing conditioner out of my hair.
Oh, yup. Exercise can def be a huge trigger. Wearing a hat to help keep swear from dripping down your face might help. Rinsing sweat off your face as quickly as possible is a good idea, but its a catch22 bc washing your face more can cause problems in and of itself.
If you need any product suggestions, r/skincareaddiction really is a great resource. If you haven't seen any improvement with typical acne treatments like benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, I'd suggest trying a soap or lotion for fungal acne, like this soap. If you ever have scalp problems that are relieved by dandruff shampoo, you'll especially want to look into fungal acne - often people who struggle with one issue also real with the other.
Exercise or weight loss affecting your testosterone levels can also cause breakouts I think, but I think they tend to be temporary and go away when everything starts to settle down.
That makes perfect sense in terms of why you stopped. I've heard finacea can be really great for both acne and fungal problems, plus you can get it OTC, so I may have to look into that as well. I'm sure my moisture barrier is pretty shot to crap at this point, so it sounds like trying the zinc first may be better than the sulfur. I know there are some different creams/balms that also utilize zinc, so that could be helpful. I'm glad that you've continued to use something that works for you, even if other people may disagree. I think that's really important and something we often lose sight of on this sub. Is this the soap you use?
I've read either just washing with soap or a bar of Pyrithione Zinc soap for a couple weeks helps. If you're lazy, just use Head & Shoulders shampoo and let it run down your body as you wash it off.
Hi there!
I just wanted to let you know that Automod has removed your comment because it contains an Amazon referral link, which we don't allow in the sub.
Could you please edit the URL so that everything from (and including) "tag=" is removed? That way, the product page will still be visible - but no one can make a profit from the link.
Alternatively, copy this URL: https://www.amazon.com/Noble-Formula-Pyrithione-Zinc-Soap/dp/B00G7TUDA0
If you've done that, please reply to this message so I can approve your comment. Thank you!
At the recommendation of a dermatologist, I started using pyrithione zinc soap on my back in the shower. I alternate washing with that and a salicylic acid body wash and it's really helped clear up my chest and back.
I just bought this after I saw someone on here with a similar looking problem, hopefully it helps when it comes in two days and it is for eczema.
I did have eczema many years ago, hadn't thought about it since it resolved after a beach trip when I was 11, maybe another flare up? It looks a little like periorificial dermatitis to me too, and I had this same sort of stuff around the corners of my mouth two months ago, kept worrying people would think I had herpes and couldn't help picking it, finally healed though.
Thank you for your response, makes me feel a little more at ease that I'm in the right direction as far as product options. If it gets worse I'll consider a doctor-- I don't have the money to go except for things my OB can handle (family- free care) and serious stuff/emergencies. :(
It's me again! Get this soap for your acne/oil. I started off using it 3x a week, but now I use it every day. Rub the bar all over your face for a minute or so and rinse. It does sting like nothing else if you get it in your eyes. I saw reduced pimple size literally over night. If I don't use it, acne pops back up with a vengeance, so I bought 1 to keep at my SOs and one at my place so I can't forget to use it. Seriously changed my skin.I've also heard that spearmint tea (2cups a day) helps too and I just started that this week. My doctor said to try it.
Hope this helps!!

Can you use the bar on your face? Also, would this be used in the shower or just over the sink as a cleanser before moisturizer/etc? Id assume this is what you used?
Lastly, would you reccommend just using this instead of the supplement or altogether? Thanks for the help!
Make sure the brush isn't too harsh and that you're cleaning it regularly as well as allowing to air dry. A zinc bar soap on the areas with acne might help too, such as
Noble Formula 2% Pyrithione Zinc (ZnP) Bar Soap 3.25 oz - Hand Crafted in the USA, Especially Formulated for Those with Psoriasis, Eczema, Dry and Sensitive Skin https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G7TUDA0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_iDqUwbSPCHDAR
I've found both Olay and Cerave products make me breakout/clog my pores. As the other poster said too, chemical exfoliants might be better for you than physical
Have you tried zinc bar soap for your face? My derm suggested this one
Noble Formula 2% Pyrithione Zinc (ZnP) Bar Soap 3.25 oz - Hand Crafted in the USA, Especially Formulated for Those with Psoriasis, Eczema, Dry and Sensitive Skin https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G7TUDA0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_5rlywbAA380WS
It actually worked great and improved chin acne pretty quickly
I have heard this soap recommended many times for treating dandruff, itchy skin, etc. Zinc is the active ingredient.
When my hair is a bit too greasy (sweating a lot is the usual cause) I put a small amount of regular bar soap on my finger tips and quickly dab it throughout my hair while washing it under water. This helps to reduce the excess oil while leaving some to keep my hair soft. I would imagine you could use this bar in the same manner and possibly focus more exclusively on the scalp.
Also, for me at least, going to bed with wet or damp hair gives me a bit of itchyness and dandruff the next day. Do you ever go to bed with damp hair?
I'm 19, almost 20. I've had acne consistently since I was 7 or 8. Used to be that it was just on my face, but I've had it on my back and chest since I was 12 or so, and my arms since I was 13. In the last year it's spread down to my thighs and calves.I rarely get much acne on my face anymore, though I do have some enlarged pores.
Every other morning I switch off between using a Benzoyl Peroxide body wash and 2% pyrithione zinc soap, and haven't seen much improvement. When I was 14 I was on Docycycline for a couple of months before I just kind of stopped taking it. I was on Minocycline for 3 or 4 months when I was 17. Neither helped much. When I was 15 my doctor referred me to a dermatologist, but my mother kept rescheduling my appointments, and I had to wait months between them, so I never ended up getting to go. I have an appointment inn mid-december that I won't pass up for the world. I'm hoping to be cleared for accutane.
My diet is honestly pretty shitty. A lot of eating out and pizza, but I really don't have the time or the energy to cook and clean and everything most days, because I'm taking 17 hours this semester as well as working 25 hours a week. I'm changing over to an all-natural laundry detergent as soon as my current bottle runs out, hoping that that'll help me out.
I really just want to clear up long enough to get my tattoo on my back. I've been wanting it since 8th grade, and it's frustrating to have to keep waiting and waiting to get it, especially because I have the money right now.
I bought this as recommended by PocketDerm. It helped immediately with redness and eczema. It wasn't too drying. I used 2 or 3 times a week for a little more than 3 months. After that, it started to irritate and trigger my eczema symptoms. I think zinc soap compromised my skin barrier due to high pH. It has a pH of 9.
I switched to Aveeno Moisturizing Bar. It has a pH of 5.5. It works a million times better than zinc soap.
I had these! What finally got rid of them for good fingers crossed is zinc soap.
My understanding (parsed through my dermatologist) is that sometimes the bacterial balance can be out of whack, and so funus-y things grow on your face and can cause more acne like this.
It can especially happen if you've taken antibiotics a lot or recently.
I use this 3-4x a week instead of my usual facial cleanser, it can be a little bit drying but hasn't caused any flakiness. It's taken about 2 weeks and almost all of my little bumps are gone!!!
I actually ordered this soap a couple days ago, should be here tomorrow. Is it similar to the one you use? After seeing your post, I'm wondering if this is my issue too. I've been on and off antibiotics for over a year, and I use BP even though it does absolutely nothing for my skin. I don't know. Your skin looks really great though!
Hi! Was just creepin around this sub reading about fungal acne (forget the technical term already) and stumbled upon this. Sorry no one's gotten back to you! Why are you switching out your cleansers? People who have fungal acne respond very well to proper treatment. Many use this this zinc soap. Others have even had complete success with using head and shoulders shampoo on their face (and hair - fungus apparently often comes from the scalp) a few times per week and using lotrimin md (fungal foot cream) as OTC treatments. I've had stubborn as hell acne since I hit puberty (going on 15 years now..) and I am REALLY hoping this is my cause. My soap in en route. Any changes to your routine since your post?
Oh you don't have to have pocket deem to get the soap, sorry I should have clarified! It's on amazon. Be sure to patch test, we don't want your skin getting worse if it doesn't work for you! I think most people use this 2-3x per week. It has a high pH.
There is a $13 soap from Amazon that I use. Try it out. It was recommended to me by my derm.

Hey! You should try out:
https://www.amazon.com/Noble-Formula-Pyrithione-Zinc-Original/dp/B00G7TUDA0
It worked for me so well and then use the ceraVE moisturizer.
Zinc pyrithione is actually good for eczema and dry skin! At least according to wikipedia because it's anti-fungal. But you should probably try to find another option than head and shoulders then, I know there are lot on amazon like this one with good reviews :)

- your pillow case could need washed, maybe you favor that side when u sleep where the white heads are, even if its clean could be irritated by the laundry detergent suddenly (happened to me) i only use fragrance free laundry detergent for my pillows.
- it could be dandruff, if i have dandruff my forehead area can break me out, make sure your scalp doesn't have dandruff
-if you work out and sweat, your hair products will seep into your face, you could assume it would be all over, but some parts are more sensitive than others ( for me my jaw area is where i flair up, and mostly one side).
use this:
try on amazon https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00G7TUDA0/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
- try washing your HAIR with nizoral, not putting it on ur face...that soap i linked has the special ingredient that the shampoo does, but without all the other bad things.
-could also try putting aloevera on your scalp fresh out of the shower or some tea tree oil, if it is a fungal problem ( over growth of candida in the body aka yeast, can try apple cider vinegar and other things)
-always make sure your face wash is fragrance free...like Marcelle gel wash ( from a drugstore), which is also a good price.
-when I get white heads, its an allergy, and its almost always from hair products.
-make sure you use a toner when you are done a work out, or out of the shower ( try bioderma water sensitive), never any with fragrance or alcohol.
-use paula choice products, try a retinol, or aha
- could be folliculitus ( which for me, is still from an allergy from hair products)

edit: just noticed theres a picture, you have very dark thick hairs on your forehead, im very much leaning towards folliculitis. 100% get the soap, use tea tree oil or aloe. can even get 100 percent aloe 'gel' (watery textured one) and use that as a toner. yes, there is a link between the shampoo working. you could always get your forehead and between ur brows lasered so that you damage the hair folliculs so u dont get this problem in the future, too.
I use Noble Formula 2% Pyrithione Zinc (ZnP) Original Emu Bar Soap and I like it, but I have to follow it with toner to remove the squeaky soap residue.
DermaHarmony 2% Pyrithione Zinc (ZnP) Bar Soap is a brand I haven’t tried yet, but I think I’ll buy it next when my current bar runs out to see if it’s better.
I use this one by Noble Formula, the emu oil base is really moisturizing and nice on my skin https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G7TUDA0/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_PK74GTJTAB4FA1GWAJYA?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Try Nizoral shampoo. Nothing else worked for me. Then I got a bar of emu soap, too.

Absolutely incredible I suffered from perioral dermatitis and this has definitely helped the dry, cracking skin around my nose and has helped clear my skin. I have combination skin so it’s oily by the end of the day but very prone to dryness. Getting a good scrubber especially for nightly cleaning is essential as well I used a silicone face scrubber like this one
INNERNEED Soft Handheld Silicone Facial Cleansing Brush, Mild Anti-Slip Face Exfoliating and Massage Scrubber Pad, Gentle Exfoliating, Removing Blackhead, Massaging (Pack of 3) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08BXTHDFP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_0D64SYCX7JF6RG4K31FP?psc=1
Morning routine: Cleanse with soap bar - don’t use the scrubber because that was a bit too harsh for me twice a day Ordinary hyaluronic acid 2% + b5 - apply when face is still slightly wet after washing face Vitamin C serum Ordinary caffeine solution 5% + EGCG - under eyes only for that morning pick me up CeraVe AM face moisturizer
Nighttime routine: Cleanse with soap bar and silicone scrubber
Ordinary hyaluronic acid 2% + b5 - apply when face is still slightly wet after washing face
Ordinary niacinamide 10% + zinc 1%
Vitamin E oil
CeraVe moisturizing cream
Weekly routine: 3x a week: Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution - helps with texture and replacing dead skin cells with new cells - work your way up to using it this often! Start with 1x-2x multiple days between each use
1x week: Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Masque - this mask drys my face out pretty well so I do it only once per week and helps keep down my bigger breakouts
I’ve had some success with this stuff. Twice a day.
Ok this sounds exactly like what I have just gone through. It sounds like melassezia or pityrosporum folliculitis. Basically it’s a type of yeast/fungal infection- presents like acne and is commonly mistaken for it but they don’t have whiteheads, are itchy and yeah you can read about it. I went to the doctor, after trying all my prescription acne stuff and he said it was folliculitis and gave me antibiotics- which haven’t done anything. So after reading and googling all about it I got some topical antifungal cream at Walgreens- clotrimazole which was labeled “ringworm cream” 👀 and I washed the area with head and shoulders and in 24 hours it has almost disappeared!! Swear to god. I hope it can help you. I just ordered some bar soap with the active ingredient in the head and shoulders (pyrithione zinc) that I’ve read about here’s the bar soap on Amazon and here’s an article I hope this helps !! 🙏
I'd say around 2 weeks with soap I started noticing a difference. Ty!
This one - Noble Formula 2% Pyrithione Zinc (ZnP) Original Emu Bar Soap, 3.25 oz https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B00G7TUDA0/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_ZNYPX351EKRKBC8A89MY?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Expensive but worked a treat for me!
Ummm yeah don't use soaps on your face if you gave confirmed seb derm. Most of them will dry your face out and causing severe flakes and or dry skin. Yes I've had similar experiences with soap.
Try the shampoo trick with head and shoulders and try not to use any harsh soaps or face washes. You can try standard head and shoulders or clinical bottle head and shoulders to see if that helps.
Seb derm doesn't like alot of soaps, oils, and harsh things on the face.
This soap that's actually formulated for seb dern could possibly provide some relief. This soap basically has the same ingredient as head and shoulders. It's a low cost treatment you could try for a couple weeks. It's sold on Amazon and has helped some.
Noble Formula 2% Pyrithione Zinc (ZnP) Original Emu Bar Soap, 3.25 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G7TUDA0/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_P9AQC6YRH9MDFD5Q8RF3
Here's a good moisturizer that doesn't have all the bad junk that I use if you want to try.
Vanicream Fragrance Free Moisturizing Lotion with Pump, For Sensitive Skin, 16 Fluid Ounces https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003XWG880/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_3D5FST3A1BBWM68JZ6JS

Anti-fungal ingredients can help treat seb dermatitis. Pyrithione zinc is a common anti fungal ingredient.
Try a gentle face wash/soap with 2% pyrithione zinc and see if it helps.
Here are some options:

I got really bad steroid acne and this started clearing it up in 3 days: https://www.amazon.com/Noble-Formula-Pyrithione-Zinc-Original/dp/B00G7TUDA0?ref_=ast_sto_dp
Noble Formula 2% Pyrithione Zinc (ZnP) Original Emu Bar Soap is the only soap that has ever worked for me.
I also used to get triggered by CeraVe and Cetaphil cleansers. This bar of soap has been a life saver and was recommended awhile ago on this page.
The price seems high, but honestly my little bar of soap has lasted 6+ months and i'm only halfway through it. Also the soap is not like a traditional soap- it doesn't have extreme suds or anything, more like an oatmeal bar!
https://www.amazon.com/Noble-Formula-Pyrithione-Zinc-Original/dp/B00G7TUDA0
I’ve used this bar before and it’s worked well for my scalp. It dries the hair a bit so I follow with an ACV rinse. It has the same zinc as the free and clear you’re using, but with emu oil. I sometimes alternate between the zinc emu oil bar and this salicylic acid shampoo for my “treatment days” - and use free and clears normal shampoo for normal days. I wash about every other day, sometimes stretching to three days.
I had similar acne and these products helped me so much :
(1) Noble Formula 2% Pyrithione Zinc... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G7TUDA0?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
(2) https://www.amazon.com/Vanicream-Moisturizing-Sensitive-Irritated-Dermatologist/dp/B000NWGCZ2
Vanicream is better than Cerave in my opinion. Cerave made my face burn (there’s an additional harsher ingredient). Vanicream lacks that ingredient and is still totally clean :) I’d give it a shot!
Try this soap - it's way better than Nizoral IMO! :)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00G7TUDA0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Buy the Noble formula soap bar from amazon. It contains 2% pyrithione zinc. I had the exact same issue as you. Thick beard and sebDerm build up because of it. This soap bar saved my beard. Rub it into the beard during the shower, every day if possible, and then moisturize it with some oils. I also add a few drops of pure tea tree oil into my daily beard oil because of its anti fungal effect.
Highly recommend!
Yes of course! Zinc Soap and I currently use the CVS brand "Creamy Acne Face Wash" with 4% BP. I definitely recommend the zinc soap, the BP wash I'll probably experiment with a few brands, personally. This is the Murad spray.
Zinc Soap with hemp or sisal strap (my preference), a nylon mesh rope or an old fashioned back brush. He shouldn't be trying to rub his skin raw, gentle daily exfoliation is what is needed. Wet the scrubber, lather it with the soap, and scrub as with a washcloth.
this soap helped me
I had something similar and my Curology provider suggested using this zinc bar soap, it helped.
Noble Formula 2% Pyrithione Zinc (ZnP) Original Bar Soap, 3.25 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G7TUDA0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_uJvzAb7X6XMR0
This is what my dermatologist recommended:
https://www.amazon.com/Noble-Formula-Pyrithione-Zinc-Original/dp/B00G7TUDA0
You should try this 2% Zinc bar soap. Really helped with my bacne and face acne.
Have you tried using a zinc soap? I used this one and it cleared me up in a few weeks!
https://www.amazon.ca/Noble-Formula-Pyrithione-Zinc-Soap/dp/B00G7TUDA0
It could be bacterial acne. I would try zinc soap. https://www.amazon.com/Noble-Formula-Pyrithione-Zinc-Soap/dp/B00G7TUDA0
Try this: Noble Formula 2% Pyrithione Zinc (ZnP) Bar Soap
I'd use it on your face and body, it will go fast.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00G7TUDA0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Try this- it's worked quite well for me.
The best luck I've had is with Revlon's ColorStay during clearer times, and Lioele's Triple The Solution BB during flaky times. The downside to TTS is that is only comes in one color, so if you're not NC15-20 it won't be a match for you. I've tried other Asian BB creams with mixed success. Missha Perfect Cover didn't cause me any problems when I was using it this past winter.
What are you using for face wash and treatment? The biggest game changer for me was learning about Noble Formula Pyrithione Zinc soap. It, for the most part, keeps flakes at bay; during periods where my skin gets really bad, I put the soap on and let it sit for a minute or two before washing off. Following up with a tea tree oil treatment has also been extremely helpful. I'll sometimes mix TTO into a regular moisturizer or carrier oil at night. I LOVE this TTO product, because it goes on thick and really seems to knock flakiness down overnight. I wouldn't suggest using it during the day, because it dries to a film that peels off.
Yeah I was using this:https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00G7TUDA0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 for a while but ive just started using adaptsept.
I don't have cystic acne so I cannot guarantee that this will work. But I've been using Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Hydrating Cleanser in conjunction with this soap and it is doing wonders for my skin. After one use of the Noble formula, my skin was noticeably more clear and calm. I've been recommending this to people as if it were water because I feel like it's probably miracle soap that hardly anyone knows about.
It's bizarre that your derm would say that it's not hormonal, but put you on spironolactone. Spironolactone is only for hormonal acne...
I went through something similar (stress turned into cystic acne, had great skin previously). It sucks. I will tell you that spiro is the medication that helped me the most, so that's potentially good.
My tips:
Patch test any and all products. This sub has a bunch of info on patch testing. You don't want anything to get worse.
If you have any income stream, I recommend Curology. There are a bunch of referral links out there for a free month, too, so worst case if it is really needed you could sign up and get advice and then cancel it. Obviously not ideal, but I read about how your mom is pretty set on the advice already given (for a second opinion you probably can't get any cheaper though).
I would recommend using a gentle cleanser with a pH of around 5.5. You can find lots of recs in this sub. CeraVe has a facial foaming cleanser available in drugstores. I believe that the orange wash from Neutrogena has salicylic acid in it, and it will be way too harsh on your skin with all of those topicals (and in general, but even worse with those).
I would also recommend finding a moisturizer and a sunscreen. You won't be able to effectively lighten any scarring without a sunscreen. Lots of people like CeraVe PM, and Neutrogena has some sunscreens available. I would look around the sub for recs and - you guessed it - patch test.
Your face needs gentle care. If products are too harsh, take a break from them, possibly alternating days or something. If you irritate your skin with harsh products, the acne can get worse. I would speak with your derm about any concerns.
You don't need a complicated routine, just one that makes your skin happy. This sub can get confusing. There's no rush.
Don't put on a bunch of makeup to cover it up. It's super tempting, but don't. If you do decide to use something like light mineral foundation, patch test.
Drink lots of water.
Get lots of sleep.
Try to sleep on your back, or any way that does not put your face into the pillowcase. Also, change your pillowcase frequently. I use a clean pillowcase once and then flip it and use the other side once before changing it. Along these lines, be really careful about anything that touches your face. Even wash your hands before you wash your face.
Try to laugh every day. Maybe do some yoga or mediate or something. Spend some time looking at trees and stuff. Whatever works for you to relax and get to a happy place. It can be hard, but it'll help with the hormones. Your body is this machine that's likely churning out cortisol (stress hormone) right now. It will help to address that.
Some people recommend drinking spearmint tea and taking evening primrose oil supplements. I like spearmint tea, so I drink it, but I can't really say whether I think it's made a big difference to me. Just throwing this out there.
My Curology derm recommended that I use pyrithione zinc soap on my face 2-3 times a week in place of a cleanser. I am comfortable recommending this because it sounds like we have very similar skin BUT I am NOT a doctor or dermatologist, just a stranger on the internet, so take that into consideration. My translation of what the soap does is this: it helps prevent the bacteria that normally lives on your face from ganging up on you with the acne bacteria.
Definitely do not pick or pop or fall into any habits of touching or extracting anything. This is disastrous with cysts. You can use hot compress - make sure to use a clean towel, get it wet, microwave for a bit (and make sure it's not going to burn you), then hold it on your cysts until it cools. Repeat for as long as you like. There is not really much else you can do for cysts unfortunately; they are deep. :(
Good luck.
Skin Type: combination/sensitive | Country/Climate I'm in: humid subtropical (humid summer/dry winter) | Top Skin Concern: facial dermatitis, oily t-zone, acne, damaged acid mantle/moisture barrier
Current Routine/Products I'm Using:
AM
PM
Potentially helpful history: Ready to try AB routine after my last one didn't go so well (due to going in blind/not enough research). I just learned about acid mantle/pH importance of cleansers. First I was having a bad outbreak of facial/seborrheic dermatitis on my forehead, bridge of nose and the spots around nostrils. Changed up my diet 1 month ago (so far: quit all soda, drinking more water). Bought a ZNP soap bar to see if it would provide relief from that. Didn't really work, but I freaked out when I pH tested it (8.5 pH but it's soap I felt dumb for not realizing orz) after reading the acid mantle info and my skin wasn't improving much (not getting horribly worse either thankfully). I've stopped using that as of this week, but I still have the facial dermatitis, redness around nose, acne prone, and dull skin.
I specifically want help with actives/essence product recs for seborrheic dermatitis and recs for good moisturizers for acne prone/oily prone skin with damaged moisture barrier/acid mantle (I break out very easily). I've been looking at tea tree products as the tea tree sheet masks have been helping a ton with calming both the dermatitis and the acne, as well as very moisturizing. I've already purchased a full set of the LJH Tea Tree Line (essence, cream, toner, masks, face wash) to slowly work into my routine, starting with the essence I think. I was also looking at Benton Aloe BHA toner for night only, since some people seem to break out when starting it.
Question: For severely damaged acid mantle, how long can one expect to see improvement after starting a new routine? 2 weeks? 1 month? I'm pretty sure mine's wrecked, because I'm so sensitive and acne prone.
Sounds a lot like seborrheic dermatitis, try pyrithione zinc soap, like this one from Amazon. I'm really surprised no one else suggested it.
A dermatologist suggested this soap to me: http://www.amazon.com/Noble-Formula-Pyrithione-Zinc-Soap/dp/B00G7TUDA0
I usually just wash with Zinc soap in the shower.
I have this too and would recommend using a zinc soap when you cleanse (I apply it to the affected area only).

Are you talking about something like this? I've looked into that before for my body acne. I'll definitely give it a try. Thanks!
I do use a toner! I use Simple soothing toner. Here's my usual routine:
AM
Splash with water OR Simple Soothing Skin Toner
Moisturize with Simple Hydrating Moisturizer
PM
Remove makeup with mineral oil
OCM with mineral oil
Simple Soothing Toner (instead of double cleanse to remove left over oil)
(wait 20 minutes)
Simple Hydrating moisturizer
** Right now it's slightly different because I got a crap case of pityrosporum folliculitis, so I cut out the BHA and use Noble 2% Pyrithione Zinc bar soap as my cleanser.
BIOM8 is actually one of the few things that help me. But I understand how different everyone's experiences are with seb derm. My current routine seems to be very effective at reducing redness and flakes, which for me are on the sides of my nose and eyebrow area. I use Noble Formula 2% zinc soap bar, bought on Amazon:
Noble Formula 2% Pyrithione Zinc (ZnP) Original Emu Bar Soap, 3.25 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G7TUDA0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_byCgBbKGWT5BT
I exfoliate every other day with a soft bristle brush. After cleansing, I pat my face to almost dry and apply the minimum amount needed of Biom8 to cover my problem areas. Lastly, I use a moisturizer from Paula's Choice that I know does not irritate my skin. Hope this helps someone!
