Okay, so that one wasn't what I needed, but I looked through related items and there's another adapter that looks like what I'm after.
I'm going to have to look for it on another site since it's on Amazon US and I don't want to pay the import fees and wait two week for delivery, but it looks like it's the right stuff.
ok, I could envision the following setup working:
Android phone with USB-C that can do video-out via USB-C (e.g samsung S or Note lineup since generaion 9 (maybe earlyier)
A hub like this, connected to the phones USB-C port
A DP <-> USB-C bi-directional cable like this, to send video data to the smart glasses
An A-C cable or, if the Remote has fixed USB-C cable, this A-male to C-female adapter.
Maybe a USB-C power bank to charge the phone, as the hub has a PD input port.
Still quite a dodgy setup, but not as bad as a modded AppleTV and wireless AirPlay, I'd say, and total cost of the amazon stuff I linked is just $45, so this is a cheap option, if you already have that required android phone needed in your group.
And you might even be able to re-use existing tech, maybe someone already has a USB-C to HDMI hub and you could combine that with this HDMI-USB-C converter you linked, to further cut down the cost
Yep, this (rudimentary docking station), this (same as previous one, but includes a 4 port USB hub) or this (looks like a full fledged docking station, but limited to USB 2.0 because it assigns all four lanes to DP).
I ordered that last one because it's the only one available in Europe and next business day shipping.
You could try one of these, and use DisplayPort for video: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B091N87PZL/
I have one of these; it works fine at half the price: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B091N87PZL?psc=1
