Honestly, it may not be better than pencil and paper. Until you have a chance to get something proper, you could use a spreadsheet like Open Office Calc http://www.openoffice.org/product/calc.html
You'll need to be able to set up the spreadsheets yourself or find some templates online for your business needs.
