I think what you're looking for is UML -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unified_Modeling_Language
It's basically a formal standard of flowchart for modeling how different parts of a program interact with each other. There's tons of editors for it, I like using this one in particular -> http://www.asciiflow.com/#Draw
