If you're unlucky, your personal dictionary file is corrupted and causes the iOS keyboard to utilize all of your CPU once you open the keyboard. I was jailbroken at the time though, so that may have been the fault of some tweak (though I only had one installed). The only way I found to fix it was to:
- Get Cloud Mate
- Turn off iCloud sync entirely on all iOS devices
- Turn said iOS devices off for good measure
- In Cloud Mate, find your personal dictionary file and delete it.
- Start your iOS devices again and turn on iCloud.
I think this is an extremely rare issue though.
