In case you still want to use computers at home, f.lux and Dimmer make them much more tolerable.
F.lux does blue light filtering and Dimmer lets you dim way past factory defaults.

Other considerations are what type of monitors you use, and how bright your ambient lighting is. My P1 has a 4k IPS display, and it doesn't cause any added eye strain for me when the ambient lighting is low, I can just turn down the brightness. However my external Lenovo ThinkVision IPS monitors don't get very dim, and have lower contrast, so they cause more eyestrain when ambient lighting is low. If you can increase your ambient lighting, that may help.
For external monitors, there are some tools you can use to help adjust the monitor brightness.

That's definitely not the case with most new computers. Higher brightness (350 nits+) screens have a higher minimum brightness unless it's something like an OLED.
Brightness is still measured in 1-100% (not always linear) on computers so it is far easier for the backlight and software to handle low minimum brightness levels on lower max-brightness displays.
I used Dimmer to help me work in a dark room when my laptop didn't get dim enough.
Thought i would share that i might have a solution. Well a temp one at least. You can get a free software that will auto dim your monitors if they dont already have the feature.

Kind of hacky, but this could work with an AHK (AutoHotKey) script to invoke it. I used it for a couple of years without issue--though, I never used a hotkey.
The brightness display issue has been around since the Chromebook Pixel days. I know this app worked for controlling the brightness for the OG Pixel and may work for this one as well:
