Also update your Yelp, Wiki, Google Plus, Facebook, etc. hours/menu/website URL/etc. Especially hours. Because nobody knows your website URL intuitively, and those are almost always the top Google results when people are looking for yourself.

I was gonna recommend that too, but it's doubtful that a lot of people necessarily have activated it in Bad Hofgasttein. But it doesn't hurt to try since it's free.

You can try to check the tourism bureau, city hall or the church to see if there are any public notifications about events. Even if you go to popular restaurants or hotels they often have an area with flyers for events in the region.
And there's also online dating sites, some of them allow you to register as just looking for friends.

I've merged ~20 Facebook Pages in the last year (Part of my role in the agency I work for), and your request will not go through if the pages have different names. If you own both pages, that's easy - you go into the settings - but that's never the case. Also, if the pages are categorized differently, you have to submit an edit requesting the category change before requesting the merge. Since reporting a duplicate page only submits it to the Places Editor, another thing that may work is spending a couple hours there and hoping your business shows up (it also gives you a good idea of what businesses in the area don't have someone actively cleaning up their presence, and it will show you which public places don't have managers)
That reminds me of a good tip: Recreate the public place Page, near your local business, and put in $5-$10 getting more likes than the existing public place pages (so you can merge / claim those pages in the future as well as get more check-ins). This will let you target that curated fanbase in your advertising strategy as well as see the unbiased insights for local visitors.

Facebook Places (and if I may give another example, Google Map Maker) gets an endless supply of people trying to promote their business or sabotage a competitor. There are huge, real monetary incentives, not fictitious Action Points, to being the first result when a local customer is looking for a service. Also, put a wrong map location, wrong business hours, wrong keywords, and you can hit a competitor real hard.
