My approach is:

1. I block distracting websites throughout the day.
   
2. I whitelist all the websites that I need to work and force myself to unlock the Internet (for max. 10min per session) if I want visit a site that’s not on my whitelist.
   
3. I block email until 2pm, while still being allowed to send email without seeing my inbox.

Although not as bad I have experienced the same, espcially with unblocking website blockers.

What helped me is to ALLOW myself to access these sites but to make it just a little bit more work. I describe my approach in this blog post about overcoming internet addiction.

People who use a website blocker or chrome extension to build deep work habits and get better at concentrating usually fail for two reasons.

Reason #1: It's Too EASY To Turn Off Your Website Blocker

One of the reasons is that it's too easy to turn it off. This is ALWAYS the case if you use any extension for your browser. If you are engaging in demanding work you're depleting your willpower. Your brains comes up with an excuse and easily justify to give into a easier behavior. Then you simply switch to another browser. It's too easy to find a way because your not delaying the gratification enough.

Reason #2: It's Too HARD To Turn Off Your Website Blocker

In our day and age, we always face some kind of emergencies whether they are real or imagined. Maybe a client calls you and needs a reply to an important email. Or you need to do a quick research for the project you are working on. The reasons to turn off your website blocker are endless. These software programs are not built for the flexibility that is required if you have to work online.

What worked for me is to make the unwanted behaviour just a bit more unpleasant so you'll do it less over time.

E.g. you unlock it by used typing in a phrase like "I want more out of life. Do I really want to watch Netflix or porn right now?" every twenty minutes.

So you can still access everything but it annoying over time...

Thanks. I've had my own overdose of "quick fix" online marketing that promises to get to 6 figures in 6 weeks by building an online course with "the knowledge you already have".

For me, it's time to move away from that.

While I believe there are things that can be 100x times more powerful in business than others, even looking for them can undermine your habits. (At least that's what happened to me).

So right now, I'm just trying to focus on building better habits and providing value (writing and sharing more) before really focusing on high impact areas like looking for big affiliates, that would promote my software FindFocus website blocker

Here are some tips from my post:

• Read the Words Out Loud - Sound out the ones that are unfamiliar. Underline them or highlight them, but don’t interrupt yourself to look them up. By reading aloud, you are incorporating physical movement of your mouth and tongue to form the words and you are hearing the words spoken aloud, adding another sense to your means of learning. At the end of your reading time, look up the unfamiliar words.
• Trade Reading Pages with a Friend, Parent or Teacher - You read one page, the helper reads the next page. If the other reader knows more about the material than you, so much the better for your learning process. If you are on the same level, you can still give each other moral support and assistance with looking up the unfamiliar stuff.
• Purchase an Audiobook That Goes with the Printed Book. If the material is exceptionally dense, listening to it while following the printed words can really help. Some materials are set up so that the words being read are highlighted as you go along. That really helps keep you on track.
• SQ3R - This mnemonic stands for “Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review.” This is a study method that has boosted many a high school or college student through difficult material. Survey the book. That  means look at the pictures, check out the graphs, and read the bold headings. Question yourself about what those pictures, graphs and headlines might mean. Read the text. Recite the material by turning the book face down and saying what you can remember out loud. Tell someone else if you can. Finally, go back and Review the material. How much did you remember correctly? Plan your SQ3R to take up one Pomodoro of time – however long your Pomodoro might be.

The point mentioned about getting hobbies FIRST never really crossed my mind. I guess for most people (including me) it was always the other way around.

First get rid of distractions and then use the time for better and more worthwhile things.

We all know that we are probably spending too much time online.

Usally I would recommend my own website blocker but in this use case it's probably better to use K9 to block reddit (and give the password to someone else)...

You could try Extensity to disable your blocking chrome extension. But I have not tried that because I use a more flexible native app to block distractions.
