Jumpcut is a lightweight, text-only option with a speedy-to-use HUD-style interface. Have been using it for a long time, and feel hobbled using a Mac without it installed:

The inconsistent behavior of cmd-e is what sent me down this rabbit hole in the first place, hah. I switch machines and reset accounts a lot so I like to know how to do things without installing apps. I took your advice though and installed jumpcut. We'll see how it goes. :)
