What is the crowd's opinion of MotionX GPS?

Motion X GPS is a great app for shorter walks or if you have a means to recharge on longer walks. Like other GPS dependent apps it will be hard on the battery.

You can save and restore tracks, upload them, get voice feedback on progress and many other features which the link will better detail. I've used it a number of times and while the impact on battery life means I wouldn't rely on it completely it is a useful app.

• If you have a unlocked phone, you can use a local prepaid SIM for internet. There are some websites, which collecting information about providers, data plans for foreign countries. For example in France orange has cards starting from 7 € …
• Otherwise Disable Roaming in internet settings, that will prevent a huge bill for expensive data roaming abroad. Disabling Data in the same settings pane won't hurt, but is not needed, never had trouble with just disabling roaming.
• You could leave the SIM in, but calling and being called will be more expensive than in your home net. A few minutes to talk within the EU is not too bad, less expensive than data.
• Location service with GPS will work w/o any internet (3G/WLAN) but there will be no map loaded in default maps app. There are other map application which allow to preload maps. I have MotionX and preload tiles from OpenStreetMap. Also the asissted in aGPS won't work, it may be take a bit longer to fix your position, but that's not really bad.
• I have a lock screen with password (active after one minute) on my phone and connected it once to find my phone. So I can search and wipe it. But this will only work with internet connection. (WLAN or mobile.) You also can set the device to auto-wipe after 10 false password attempts at lock screen.
• No No-3G-Setting in 4s now, but may come with 5.0.2.
