What is the crowd's opinion of OpenNX?

I use NoMachine and can vouch for it.

If OP insists on free and open source, there's OpenNX, FreeNX, and X2Go.

I still recommend NoMachine proprietary (its genuinely very good) but I have used X2Go in the past and its also good.

For a viewer/client Remmina now supports the NX protocol.

I went through this recently when LogMeIn got rid of their free package. I searched high and low and ended up with nothing open source. The best I could find (and what I settled on) is called SimpleHelp.

Pros:

• 1 time $295 fee (no recurring costs)
• Host on your own server
• Gets through firewalls pretty easy
• Easy to send access "invite" URL to users where you don't have access setup yet (and generally easy for them to get connected)
• Both sides (remote client and local client) work on Linux and Windows well
• Encrypted connection

Cons:

• Has a mobile client, but it isn't that great. It is usable in a pinch, but I wouldn't want to do any serious work from it.
• Not open source. For $300 license, can only connect to one machine at a time, have to buy more licenses to connect to have more concurrent connections
• Is a Java blob and I generally don't like Java (for multiple reasons)

Anyway, if you do find anything open source, post back. The closest I know of are OpenNX (a open source version of NoMachine) and VNC. Both of which have a lot more setup headaches.
