What is the crowd's opinion of Organic Maps?

Aujourd'hui j'ai découvert l'appli GPS Organic Maps, gratuite et sans pubs. Ça permet de se localiser sur une carte sans accès à Internet. Je vois 3 cas d'usage :

• A l'étranger quand on a pas envie de se payer un forfait local ou de raquer

• Dans les coins sans couverture réseau

• Quand on est un gros radin qui a un forfait Free à 2€.

A noter : on peut rechercher un restaurant, etc. sans accéder à Internet.

Magic Earth and Here Maps are some of the proprietary apps I've seen many use, and then there's always Google Maps / Waze / etc.

Google Maps is very lacking in detail compared to OSM for these kinds of things.

For navigation I use Here!WeGo, not waterproof but has offline navigation and it's not Google. I recently bookmarked another one but haven't had the time to test it: https://organicmaps.app there's a thread somewhere on r/privacytoolsio

If you're looking for an alternative to OSMAnd, there's also Organic Maps that's great.

The bigger challenge is to find a way to get the navigation info to show up on a wearable. A while ago I had a Pebble smartwatch and it had an app where it could show Google Maps navigation direction info (like an arrow to the next step with distance, etc) but I haven't found a good replacement for it since, and it worked offline through a companion app called GadgetBridge.

Next time, just download https://organicmaps.app/ and have it download the ~80MB data file for the entirety of Iceland on WiFi and never worry about using data for a map again as the whole app works even while offline.

Since the trails in the park intersect, you could start anywhere if you wanted a longer hike. Get a free GPS map (like Organic Maps or Gaia) and you can find your own route.
