GIMP isn't really a RAW conversion/workflow tool like Lightroom. As everybody else is saying, it's more of the open source analog to Photoshop. If what you're looking for is something similar to Lr, there are a lot of open source choices, but three I know of are RawTherapee, darktable, and photivo.

I like a lot Photivo, from their site: Photivo is a free and open source (GPL3) photo processor. It handles your RAW files as well as your bitmap files (TIFF, JPEG, BMP, PNG and many more) in a non-destructive 16 bit processing pipe with gimp workflow integration and batch mode.

Flickr user Dh0r has set up a PPA to eliminate the previous difficulty of installing Photivo on Ubuntu.

Photivo is open source, multi-platform software for processing RAW and bitmap images in a non-destructive 16 bit processing pipe with gimp workflow integration and batch mode. This Ubuntu PPA contains Photivo its dependencies (liblcms2, lensun, libexiv2, graphicsmagick with 16bit enabled), and is available for Lucid and Maverick releases (32/64bit).

Quickly add the repository & install photivo with the following command:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:dhor/myway&& sudo apt-get install photivo

OK, so as /u/HeidiH0 points out, there is actually no package for photivo in this repo. It's not possible to install the dependencies for the xenial version on yakkety and although it is possible to alien the rpm for Fedora and install the resulting deb it doesn't run. TBH all the binary offerings are out of date.

The source repo listed on the project site has a redirect from January 2014 which leads to bitbucket where I can only see Windows downloads. I guess at this point you are either going to have to compile from source or use something else. It doesn't seem like a well-maintained project.
