My point was, neither of them are private in any way and neither of them should be used for anything that requires privacy.

Both are chat apps. Both have support for one-on-one chats and group chats. Just because one layout might work better for collaborative work, doesn't mean it's automatically better if it's not end-to-end encrypted. Semaphor by Spideroak is another good alternative to Slack with a focus on privacy
I think it would be good for the Sia team to interface with Spideroak's backup team as I can see a really good collaboration happening there.
