Have you tried SequelPro https://sequelpro.com ?
I just added a BINARY column to one of my local tables and it was displayed with no problem.
You need to uncheck the box "don't load blob and text fields until needed" for it to display those fields on the Content view.
edit : FWIW the MySQL client is protecting itself by not dumping the binary content out as it may have codes and characters it doesnt know how to display and might cause a problem.
It's not completely dead. The last prod release doesn't work with newer versions of MySQL, but if you download the test build it works well.

I have the one at the top here (built 1 year ago) and it works flawlessly. No idea why they don't just release it since the current prod build is unusable.
Also, interesting to see that they had some commits again just a few days ago.
I don't understand the developers of Sequal Pro. Can't really find a good alternative. The regular version isn't updated since 2016, but the last test version (https://sequelpro.com/test-builds) is from just 2 months ago?
- Homebrew is a package manager for macOS. Install it with instructions from the website. Then just type `brew install mysql` in the terminal. Then to enable the daemon type `brew services start mysql` and it will starts every time you log in. If you installed some mysql daemon before, remove it.
- Sequel Pro is an application for viewing and managing of MySQL/MariaDB servers. Personally I prefer it over DBeaver. But DBeaver is fine too. Btw, terminal client for mysql is pretty good too, especially if you're learning.
I'm going to preface this with saying I'm not much of a mysql fan - its kind of a weird little database and my preference is PostgreSQL. Mysql does have huge adoption, largely among web developers, and it is a perfectly serviceable db.
However, given your current level of expertise (spreadsheets) its a decent choice and I would suggest you get your hands on SequelPro on the Mac. There is NO BETTER DATABASE GUI in the world. Not for mysql or any other database. Bonus - its free and has excellent CSV import/export capabilities which will make moving your spreadsheet data in and out easy.
