Download Shimo and wait until UBNT implements L2TP into the GUI. Shimo supports PPTP and the 30-day trial will get you through your trip.

Edit: I just saw and replied to your post at Ubnt's forum. I've been having the same issues with L2TP, but I have 30 users that authenticate in Active Directory. Luckily few have installed Sierra except me, but my Shimo trial is running out.

I use Shimo OpenVPN client on my macbook and it has a feature to set your DNS to use local settings. Tunnelblick does not work so well with DNS now.
