They're not zipped, if that's what you're looking for, but Will Johnston's Puzzle Pointers is a good place to start. I use a Chrome extension called Simple Mass Downloader to save a bunch of clicks. If you're a NYT subscriber, you can also use it on the puzzle archives to quickly download a month at a time.

To add on to this answer - when you inspect element, you can locate these individually. But if you'd like to batch download them (without even needing to inspect element), check out Simple Mass Downloader (a Chrome extension). I just tested it on the page and it detects the images you are looking for without needing to find the exact URL of each image. You can then select whichever ones you want to download within the extension's window.
I've been using this chrome extension for a couple years and it's been pretty good. It occasionally misses a file or two, but it shows you which ones fail so you can get everything fairly easily

It's going to vary depending on what protections the site has put in place. The easy answer is there are extensions that can help. They will automatically get all images on the page, and some will find links to images if their not actual html img elements. I have used this one before to download over 500 images at once from a list of urls I had and it worked great.
