Use TED Notepad. It's not a programmer/coding text editor but background and text color can be changed. It's a true Notepad replacement because it keep things tiny (less than half Mega Byte), and it's not bloated with extra DLLs.

TED Notepad?
I'm a big fan of the TED Notepad on Windows.
Does anyone know if it (or something like it) has been ported to Raspbian? I haven't found it.
