What is the crowd's opinion of Weco?

Lot of the problems have to do with shareholder model that gives the company no choice but to maximize ad revenue, even if that comes by the expense of the users. In other words, whenever there are conflicts of interest between owners and users, owners win.

The conflict of interests can be removed from the equation by making users into democratic owners of the platform, and make the platform a cooperative company.

One such example is WeCo that also have polling tools and more sophisticated categorization (you can have b/chemistry as subcategory of b/science, instead of a separate subreddit).

There's quite an interesting proposal in the site on how to reduce confirmation bias:

In poll discussion threads, show as the top comment a comment posted by a person that voted different from you, but that was most upvoted by people who voted like you..

Mielestäni näissä kysymyksissä ongelmana on osakeyritys malli. Omistajien ja käyttäjien etujen väliset ristiriidat ratkaistaan aina omistajien etujen mukaisesti.

Itse uskon että tulevaisuudessa käyttäjien demokraattisesti pyörittämät osuuskunnat ovat tulevaisuus. E

simerkiksi Redditistäkin on käyttäjien demokraattisesti omistama osuuskuntavaihtoehto olemassa , jossa on muuten myös mahdollisuus luoda kyselyjä ja subreddittejä subredditien sisälle.

Kun käyttäjät omistavat alustan, ristiriitaa omistajien ja käyttäjien välillä ei enää ole.

Lisäksi osakeyhtiömalli on lyhytkatseinen, ja tutkimusten mukaan monet yritykset eivät tee investointeja jotka pitkällä aikavälillä tuottoisia, sillä paine lyhytaikaisiin voittoihin on iso.

Ilmiselvästi osakeyhtiömallissa on suuria etuja, esimerkiksi rahoituskuviot on helpompi järjestää.
