i’m just waiting for them to take the beta changes and add them to the full version, but anyone is free to play beta right now if you want.
I like the single player better too, or at least prefer more co-op multiplayer and have little interest in PvP multiplayer. But that's kind of the problem with Elite, it's trying to cater to every playstyle and none of them are really ever going to be perfect because it's hard to please everyone. I guess that's why the X-series is so good if you're really into the single player stuff.
By the way, Egosoft just recently announced X4: Foundations which apparently is going back to its roots where you can build an empire and control an entire fleet. Looks promising.
I haven't followed it all super closely. I do know they're trying to revamp the map so that you can actually order your ships around from it which makes it sound like they're thinking of it more in terms of a strategy game which I think is great.

It's a lot of promises. I don't know if it's that I didn't follow the dev process for prior games, but it feels like they're actually paying attention and communicating with their community this time.
Going through the profile of anybody who upsets you, and trying to weaponise their hobbies, is proper nonce behaviour, as well as being against the ruiles.
