Look into something like dwb (my preference) or luakit for your browser. Much lighter than Chromium and easier to customize to your WM.
For music player you really can't go wrong with mpd+ncmpcpp.
Zathura is super lightweight (both performance and aesthetics) with .pdfs and everything is customizable.
